So in December, I bought a set of bamboo sheets for my bed, which are definitely the softest sheets in the world. My husband and I were dubious at first, but as soon as they arrived in the mail, all doubt was cast aside, and all of a sudden sleeping became blissful again. These bamboo sheets were the softest sheets we’d ever had the pleasure of sleeping on, and we found ourselves looking forward to the time at night when we would get to pull back the covers and snuggle into a plush wonderland. Even with a good thread count, I just can’t sleep on cotton sheets anymore.
However, as you may have noticed, the title of this article is “How bamboo sheets changed my life”. I’m sure that many of you clicked on this article thinking, “This person must be a complete moron to title an article that way, maybe it’ll be a good source of entertainment, and a good way to remind myself how much better I am than the majority of the populace.” Well, if that is truly the reason that you clicked on this article, I can’t say that I blame you. Four months ago I likely would have had a similar reaction. However, now that I have bamboo linen sheets, I probably wouldn’t react that way anymore; instead, I would probably feel a sense of camaraderie through the cyber world with the writer of the article (especially if they were writing about organic blankets as well, because that is my next planned purchase).
Anyway, on to the subject at hand. How bamboo sheets changed my life – because yes, they really did. After we purchased our bamboo sheets, we began looking into the eco-friendly lifestyle more and more. Previously, our goal in shopping and eating had been to spend as little money as possible. But after discovering the ultimate in comfort through bamboo sheets, we became convinced that perhaps there was more to the eco-friendly lifestyle than just tree hugging and yoga (although I already did yoga prior to purchasing the sheets, and continue to do so, because it is an excellent workout).
We started changing our diet to become more eco-friendly, and we did so by purchasing organic fruits and vegetables. Before this, our dinners often consisted of Act II popcorn, which is obviously not great for aspiring athletes (we both play beach volleyball). However, our new organic sheets inspired us to care more about what we put into our bodies. All of a sudden, we were focusing on having a fruit and a vegetable with every single meal we ate. Smoothies with kale and spinach in them for breakfast, salads and a grapefruit at lunch, strawberries and broccoli at dinner – you know, things like that. We also tried to cut gluten from our diet as much as we could – we focused on having lean meats for dinner instead of pasta (and popcorn).
Thanks to our change in diet (inspired by our bamboo linen sheets), we started going to the gym more regularly instead of just playing beach volleyball to work out. I started doing even more yoga than I had done before I bought the bamboo sheets. We even started getting our kitten to play fetch with us so she could enjoy additional workouts as well.
The only problem that we have had with our bamboo sheets has been that it has been that much harder to get out of bed in the morning when your sheets are that inviting and comfortable. We are still trying to determine the best plan of attack to avoid falling into bad habits of sleeping in and missing the best diving (we also love to free and scuba dive). We will update you when we have figured out the key to that.
Our next step is to purchase bamboo blankets to accompany our new organic sheets, as we’ve heard that bamboo blankets are every bit as soft as bamboo sheets – which obviously makes them a very attractive commodity. Organic blankets seem to be the next step in our new eco-friendly lifestyle.
